GKPF is proud to announce that it is joining the ITU Child Online Protection Initiative, COP, www.itu.int/cop/ ,
COP will become one of the GKPF action lines as protecting our children from and educating them about the dangers and pitfalls that the use of ICT’s bring with them is the sacred duty of all. This duty should not be exercised just through the creation and implementation of rules and regulation, but COP should be seen as a social and economical opportunity for all stakeholders involved.
The vision is to bring about young people that make informed decisions and who use digital technologies in a way that supports their personal development and the socio-economical development of the societies in which they live. The concrete aim is to create generation after generation of ICT capable young people that are ready and able to contribute.
This open, positive and proactive approach to COP offers many opportunities to all stakeholders:
The social sector, by getting engaged with COP, will be able to further human rights in general and the rights of children in particular.
The private sector, by getting involved with COP, can create clear business opportunities for itself whilst at the same time exercising is corporate social responsibilities.
The governmental sector, by getting involved with COP, lays the social and economical foundations for their countries to become players in a digital world.
COP is planning an Africa COP Summit for 2012 and GKPF wants to hear from all its members who would like to engage with this important initiative and the conference as Delegates, Speakers, Partner Organization and Sponsors. Every individual and organization interested in child online protection should indicate their interest directly to the GKPF ED Klaus Stoll by email at klaus.stoll@gkpfoundation.org COP is a global issue and we would like to hear from all of you, not just from the Africa region.
Thank You!
Comment by kubwimana Venuste on July 19, 2012 at 5:56pm Finally it’s time for Africa and most importantly young people & children. As one of the young people I would do anything for success of this initiative but I’m wondering which age limit does COP or GKPF range young people and children. I think this clarification need to be identified as in my line of work whenever we introduce our organization activities as for young people development we are always in conflicts with people defending their youngness and childhood!
