A three-day long training workshop on "Designing Disaster Risk Reduction -focused program for Community Radio" has been organized by Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication(BNNRC) at National Institute of Mass Communication (NIMC) from 24-26 June 2012 under the support of Action Aid Bangladesh, European Commission and National Alliance for Risk Reduction and Response Initiatives (NARRI). Program Producers and Station Managers from 14 Community Radio Stations participated in the workshop.
Honorable Secretary for Ministry of Information Mr.Hedayetullah Al Mamun, NDC attended as the chief guest of the closing ceremony, while Dr.Ahsan Zakir, Director General of Disaster Management Bureau and Mr. Makbul Ahmed, Director General of National Instituet of Mass Communication (NIMC) of Ministry of Information, and Mr. Shakib Nabi, Consortium Manager of National Alliance for Risk Reduction and Response Initiatives (NARRI) participated as special guests.
Among the others Mr. Rajkumar Gade and Rezaul Karim of ACTIONAID Bangladesh attended. Mr.Rafiqul Alam, Chairperson of BNNRC presided over the occasion.
After introduction of the participants, the program was started with a brief presentation from AHM Bazlur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer, BNNRC.
In closing remarks from Action Aid, Mr.Rezaul Karim described in brief the partnership and the activities so far done for incorporation of Disaster Risk Reduction issues in community radio programs. Station Managers from Radio Lokobetar and Radio Mukti mentioned such program "very positive" in their brief feedbacks.
Mr.Shakib Nabi appreciated such an effort and particularly emphasized on more capacity building in the sector of Early Warning System, where Community Radio professionals can play vital role in saving lives. DG,Disaster Management Bureau appreciated this effort in community radio, he assured the Bureau's cooperation in this respect. In his speech,
Chief Guest Mr. Hedayetullah Al Mamun, NDC mentioned govt's commitment in widening media's role free. He has advised the community radio journalists to be aware of ethics.
The certificate and crest awarding programs by the guests graced the program. The program was ended with vote of thanks from Chairperson.
